How to contact me
My name is Alexey Vyskubov.
Short biography
I am originally from Russia. I am white (maybe it is somehow related to the fact that in Russia there was no widespread practice of importing slaves from Africa) male (it happened so, not my fault). Use he and him.
I was born in 1973 in the city which was called at that time Leningrad. Now it is known as St. Petersburg. It is very beautiful, if you can visit it, do it!
Since the year 2001 I live in Finland, and I am a citizen of this the most wonderful country.
Education and work
I am holding M.Sc. in mathematics from St. Petersburg’s State University. I was graduated in 1994; my master thesis was called “Direct decompositions of infinite Abelian groups”, and it was an original research.
Until recently (see below) I was working in IT. I would call myself “generalist software developer”, and I can do things from low-level C programming to REST APIs in Python. I like Unices and I dislike web-programming (though I am reasonably good in JavaScript, Typescript, and React).
I am proficient in a half a dozen of programming languages, can be productive in half a dozen more, and can read a dozen more.
Recent (?) developments
I had a brain stroke (apparently caused by some genetic problem) in December 2021. My hands and legs feel and work (even though my left side is much worse). My brain is in a top-notch condition. I (still) cannot stand without someone overseeing, and I (still) cannot walk, and my speech is (still) poor. I am getting now disability pension from the state, as I was deemed unable to work.
What I do now
I can only repeat after a friend of mine: “When I was working, I was spending most of my time next to a computer. Now I am retired, and I am spending most of my time next to a computer.”
